A Message from the Principal

I am extremely proud of the dedication and collaborative spirit of the Handley staff as we work collectively to assure each child’s success at Handley. We are working as a staff on this year's learning improvement goals focusing on reading comprehension, mathematics problem solving, and written language. In addition we intend to:

• Create an environment where every student feels safe.
• Address and eliminate bullying and other unkind behavior.
• Take many opportunities to celebrate students' successes -academic and social- so that every student is recognized for his/her growth and progress.
• Create an understanding among our students that they are active participants in their own education and learning.

A child's best chance for success is made possible through learning partnerships. It is critically important that staff, students, parents, and community work together to ensure our children's success. Our school setting is greatly enriched by involvement and participation of parents and community volunteers.

Thank you for sharing your child with us. Please trust us to help him/her grow emotionally, academically, and socially.

D. Davis

Handley School has been designated a “4 Star School” by the Indiana State Department of Education. There were 177 schools out of 1811 statewide to receive this commendation. The designation as a Four Star School indicates the school has met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and performed in the top 25 percent of all schools in the state in each of the four areas that are measured: attendance rate; language arts proficiency score; math proficiency score; and percentage of students meeting state standards in both English/language arts and mathematics. A school must have achieved full accreditation status in order to qualify. We are very proud of our students, faculty, and parents who work together to make this achievement possible.

Handley Helping Hands after school program is designed to provide students a safe, encouraging learning environment to assure student success. The focus is on providing a multitude of opportunities and experiences to promote academic, social, physical, and emotional growth in a respectful and caring atmosphere. We also hope to engage parents and guardians with their children in experiences that foster a greater connection with Handley School and the community.

Goals of the program are to create lifelong learners, promote positive values through character education, improve school attendance, and build a bridge to connect school and home.

More information about this program is located in the moodle section of this web page. Please click on moodle and then Handley Helping Hands section in moodle. The program handbook and calendar are then available for parents to see.
