All-State Honor Choir

Any student who is chosen for Honor Choir may also audition for the Indiana Music Educator’s Association All-State Choir.  A panel of judges will listen to the student’s audition tapes and then decide who will be chosen.  The performance date is in January and will be held in Indianapolis.  Only the best choir students in Indiana are chosen and this is a great honor!

Honor Choir (Circle the State with Song)

The Kesling Honor Choir is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader who is willing to complete a singing audition.  After auditions are heard, 32 students will be chosen based upon pitch accuracy, breath control, volume of voice, and personal disposition.  Students meet every Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. from November – March.  In addition, students are required to practice on their own with a link to rehearsal recordings online.  They will attend a clinic in March (on a Saturday) with students from all over Northern Indiana.  After working with the clinician, they will give a spectacular performance that afternoon!

Jazz Ensemble

The Kesling Jazz Ensemble is a premier ensemble at Kesling.  It is open by audition to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student in the instrumental music program who plays Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Percussion, Piano, Guitar, or Bass, or who is willing to learn one of these instruments as a secondary instrument.  The Jazz Ensemble meets on selected days before school at 6:50am, so interested students must have transportation arranged in order to participate in the group.  The group will perform a minimum of 3 concerts this year.

Jazz Lab Band

This ensemble is open to any student in the Kesling Music Department.  It meets before school at 7am Tuesday and Thursday beginning after January, and performs in one concert in May.

Show Choir

The Kesling Show Choir is open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader who successfully completes a singing audition.  After auditions are held, 26 students will be chosen based upon pitch accuracy, breath control, volume of voice, and personal disposition.  Students meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 a.m. from October – May.  The Show Choir will perform at all concerts (6th, 7th, and 8th grades – at both the holiday and the spring concerts).  In addition, they may be invited to sing in the community and should have the flexibility to rearrange their schedules to attend these performances.
