American Literature

American Literature, a one-trimester college-preparatory class, provides a survey of literature produced in the United States from traditional Native American myths to the present. This course includes a study of the representative works of various literary genres that reflect the diverse American culture. Connections are made among the history, the cultures, and the literature of a time. Written and oral exercises require students to analyze and explain how their readings of literature, history, and culture are interconnected and are distinctly American. Students learn various levels of criticism. The MLA style is followed.
