English & Speech Department

Composition 11

This one-semester college-preparatory junior-level class provides students an opportunity to review grammer, usage, vocabulary developement, and writing skills. Students follow the writing process, but greater emphasis is placed on peer editing-proofreading. Students focus on providing constructive, substantive feedback, while role playing as members of the author's target audience. Students also study models to evaluate and discuss other's writings. This coarse teaches strategies for researching, quoting, and paraphrasing. Students peer edit papers. Instruction in grammer, usage, and mechanics is integrated with the writing, helping students develope a functional understanding of language and a common vocabulary for discussing writing. Final drafts follow accepted conventions of language, style, mechanics, and format. Final drafts are composed on word processors. The MLA format is followed.
