Current Plan for Make-Up Days
LPCSC students, staff, and parents,
Please be advised that the current plan for make-up days involves adding days to the end of the school year. With the number of inclement weather days that we have experienced, our calendar now reflects the last student day as June 5th and the last teacher day as June 6th.
In addition to days added to the end of the school year, the following have been scheduled as make up days:
February 15 – student and teacher regular day
February 18 – student and teacher regular day
We are considering the following alternatives to the plan above:
1. Filing for a waiver with the state to reduce the total number of days we must "make up"
2. eLearning eMake up days in combination with regular school days at the end of the school year.
3. eLearning eMake up day(s) on Saturday
4. eLearning eMake up day on Good Friday.
These are considerations only at this time.
Moving forward we are reviewing survey results from our practice eLearning day. Please visit the corporation web page for the results of our recent parent survey. The initial analysis of the results show that the e-leaning days were an overall success with some adjustments needing to be made. We encourage you to read the comments submitted so you get a sense of the pulse of our parents on this matter. In doing so you will see that a number of parents support eLearning, however some are adamantly opposed to it.
Ongoing discussions will take place with the District eLearning Committee to determine utilization of eLearning days in the event we have additional cancellation days.

La Porte Community School Corp Smoking Policies
La Porte Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees adopted policies at their March 19, 2013 regular monthly meeting which eliminates the use of tobacco products on Corporation property and in all Corporation owned vehicles.
Policy 7434 states, "In order to protect students and staff from the adverse impact of tobacco smoke on indoor air quality and encourage students to not use tobacco in any form, the Board prohibits the use of tobacco in school buildings, on school grounds, at school activities, and on school buses at all times."
Adults who would like to quit smoking in this challenging economy can call Indiana’s free tobacco Quitline at 1-800-QUITNOW. In addition to valuable support from trained counselors, callers also receive a great financial boost with two free boxes of nicotine patches or gum.
La Porte Community School Corporation staff or parents who would like to improve their health – and that of their families - are encouraged to call the Quitline at 1-800-784-8669.
