Greetings, Handley Families -
We are busy wrapping up the 3rd grading period. We are excited that we had such a great turn out for our February Family Engagement Night - STEAM Night with LaPorte County Public Library. Fun was had by all. We are looking forward to the PTO Candy Bar sale that kicks off March 8. This helps us raise funds for the students to have the opportunity for a grade level field trip. This provides experiences that cannot be replicated in the classroom. THANKS for your support.
PLEASE NOTE THAT March 18 and April 19 will be used as eLearning days. If your child is in need of checking out a chromebook, please complete the form on Skyward or let the school know you need a paper copy.
State testing (ILEARN, IRead3, and IAM) will begin in March. Please see the dates below. Also, the Indiana Department of Education is developing several three-minute videos to share with parents and educators about assessment systems and transitions to support assessment literacy. Please take time to view these valuable resources using the links below.

Do you have a child that will be 5 on or before Aug. 1, 2019? Or, do you know of a child that wlil be 5 on or before Aug. 1, 2019? PLEASE be sure to share the information below as it is time to start "rounding up" our incoming kindergarteners for the 2019-2020 school year.
It is crucial that we have an accurate count of many students will be in our kindergarten classes for the upcoming year. Enrolling your child early helps us better prepare for the students and ensure that we have staff hired to service the students. PLEASE be sure to come to the school on March 14 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. or contact the school for paperwork. We will use the number of students that register to determine our kindergarten numbers and the number of teachers needed. Please help us plan accurately so we can support your child's learning and development.
See the attached flyer for items to bring along to enrollment.
Contact the school with any questions -- 362-2561.
Current Plan for Make-Up Days
LPCSC students, staff, and parents,
Please be advised that the current plan for make-up days involves adding days to the end of the school year. With the number of inclement weather days that we have experienced, our calendar now reflects the last student day as June 5th and the last teacher day as June 6th.
In addition to days added to the end of the school year, the following have been scheduled as make up days:
February 15 – student and teacher regular day
February 18 – student and teacher regular day
We are considering the following alternatives to the plan above:
1. Filing for a waiver with the state to reduce the total number of days we must "make up"
2. eLearning eMake up days in combination with regular school days at the end of the school year.
3. eLearning eMake up day(s) on Saturday
4. eLearning eMake up day on Good Friday.
These are considerations only at this time.
Moving forward we are reviewing survey results from our practice eLearning day. Please visit the corporation web page for the results of our recent parent survey. The initial analysis of the results show that the e-leaning days were an overall success with some adjustments needing to be made. We encourage you to read the comments submitted so you get a sense of the pulse of our parents on this matter. In doing so you will see that a number of parents support eLearning, however some are adamantly opposed to it.
Ongoing discussions will take place with the District eLearning Committee to determine utilization of eLearning days in the event we have additional cancellation days.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TECHNOLOGY
We have recently received an important video from the Indiana Department of Education. We were asked to share it with parents and the community as it provides information as to WHY technology and technology education is so important for students. Please use the link below and watch the 3 minute video from the state education department. Thank you!
