Microsoft Partnership: What It Means for La Porte Schools
A Defining Moment for La Porte Schools
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, La Porte Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees approved a resolution formalizing a landmark partnership agreement with Microsoft, the City of La Porte, and the La Porte Redevelopment Commission.
Under the new agreement, Microsoft will pay its full property taxes, with 15% of that revenue designated directly to LPCSC for the next 20 years, with no cap. That 15% represents the maximum amount permitted under Indiana law for educational programming. This replaces the previous agreement, which included a $100 million cap over 40 years, and creates a significantly stronger, more sustainable revenue stream for our schools. To our knowledge, no other school district in the State of Indiana has secured an agreement tied to a project of this scope that will generate revenue of this magnitude for public education.
The partnership also includes establishing a Microsoft Datacenter Academy at our Career and Technical Education Center in collaboration with Ivy Tech Community College. This program will prepare La Porte students for high-skill, high-wage careers in data center operations and IT infrastructure, connecting classroom learning directly to one of the world's fastest-growing industries.
There are no immediate changes to school schedules, staffing, or programming. Planning and implementation will be thoughtful and phased. Additional details about the Datacenter Academy and partnership milestones will be shared in the coming weeks.
We are grateful to Mayor Dermody, Bert Cook, the City of La Porte, the La Porte City Redevelopment Commission, the La Porte City Council, and Microsoft for their vision, support, and commitment to our school district.
— Dr. Sandra Wood, Superintendent
