Delays and Cancellations
School Delays and Cancellations
Weather Delays and Cancellations (Click here for detailed information about determining factors.)
- The La Porte Community School Corporation considers the decision to close the school a significant matter. When facing the possibility of weather-related delays or closures, we rely on a team of four to five individuals who not only closely monitor the projected and current reports of the local meteorologists but also go out into the weather to evaluate road and weather conditions to consider how all of our students travel to and from our buildings.
- We strive to make a final determination on school delays and closings by 5:15 AM, but we continuously monitor weather conditions and may decide to close later if necessary. If a two-hour delay is changed to a closure, we will make every effort to determine and communicate this by 7:30 AM.
- Our team must factor into these decisions that La Porte County spans 180 square miles, so temperatures, wind chills, snow accumulation, and thermometer readings vary significantly within our school district.
- Above all, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority when engaging in conversations about closing or delaying school.
- As a parent, you have the right to keep your child home if you believe his or her safety is at risk. If you choose to do so, notify your school as early as possible, and it will be considered an excused absence.
Built-in Snow Makeup Days
This school year, our calendar includes two built-in snow makeup days on Friday, February 13, 2026, and Monday, February 16, 2026. If there are cancellations, we will first use the built-in days set aside for this purpose. This means that the first two cancellation days that occur before February 13 will be traditional snow days, with school made up in-person on February 13 and/or February 16. Please see the visual below.
UPDATE: Due to the cancellation on 11/10, school will be in session on Friday, February 13th.
