The Learning Initiative

In the 2017-18 school year, the La Porte Community School Corporation began a new learning initiative called “One to World Learning”. This initiative is focused on a belief that our students are entering an ever-changing world where they will need to solve problems, think critically, communicate effectively, take initiative and be adaptable.

Our district has long understood the value of technology as a means of expanding and enhancing both teaching and learning. By providing Chromebooks for every student, we are exposing each student to a world of information, giving them access to a powerful learning tool, and supporting a more personalized and collaborative learning environment.

We believe that this initiative is an investment in our students designed to prepare them for college and careers in our global society.

Middle School Textbook Adoption Digital Learning – Our Roadmap

The One to World Learning initiative, an outreach of our “textbook adoption digital learning initiative”, begun at the middle schools in 2014. We combined our English/Language Arts and Reading textbook adoption with a plan to provide 30-station chromebook carts for each English and Reading classroom at Kesling and La Porte Middle Schools. A staff development plan was designed and implemented to provide ongoing training for educators to integrate the new technology into their curriculum and daily instruction.

The success of this initial step paved the way for the expansion of this program at both middle schools and the high school in 2015 and 2016. As a result, this digital learning initiative placed chromebook carts in all middle school academic classrooms and all language arts, social studies, and math classrooms at the high school. As a result, all students at the middle schools and those students enrolled in language arts, social studies, and math at the high school used these digital tools to improve communications, improve productivity and enhance and enrich the curriculum.

One to World Learning in 2017

In the Fall of 2017, we embarked on our One to World Learning initiative. Chromebook carts were moved from the high school to our elementary schools. Every student in grades 9-12 were assigned a chromebook and carrying case to be used both at school and at home throughout their high school careers.

Full One to World Learning starting Fall of 2019

Starting in the fall of 2019, all students grades 5-12 were given the availability to be issued a student chromebook for take home use. Students in grades K-4 were individually issued devices with the intent that they stay in the classroom in a cart with availability to be taken home on eLearning days. This allows for all students to feel empowered and creates a sense of personal ownership and responsibility for their own device.

As needs and technology changes moving forward, we will continue to pursue new avenues to reach and prepare our children in this ever changing digital landscape

Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, Grades 1, 5 and 9 all were issued new devices to be kept through the 4 year cycle of Elementary, Intermediate/Middle School and High School.
