Adopt A Cop Program
Beginning the week of January 21, 2013, Riley School will begin the “Adopt-a-Cop” program. This is a cooperative effort between the LaPorte Community School Corporation and local law enforcement agencies.
We will be fortunate to have Officer Nate Thode as our “Adopt-a-Cop” officer at Riley. He will be in the building at various times. Officer Thode is also a Riley parent. He may walk the hallways, greet the students at the door or join students for breakfast and/or lunch. He may be able to make several visits a week. He has already visited the cafeteria during Kindergarten lunch.
We are looking forward to this collaboration. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
School Lunch Changes
Starting August 20th, yogurt lunchables will NO LONGER be offered as a school lunch choice in Elementary Schools. The new regulatory guidelines issued by the National School Lunch program have necessitated these changes. PB & J and Salads will still be offered as an option to the regular "hot lunch" choice.
New Safety Protocol
ATTENTION RILEY VISITORS
New security protocol was put in place last school year. When visiting Riley, ALL visitors will need to check in at the main office.
1. Please show the school secretary your Photo Identification card (driver’s license).
2. A Visitor’s Badge will be issued to you. This badge must be visible at ALL times.
3. Upon leaving the building, return your visitor badge to the office.
We understand this will be more time consuming, however, the safety and security of our students, staff and visitors is our top priority. Thank you for your support of Riley Elementary School and all the schools of the La Porte Community School Corporation.
State Department of Education Report Card
Riley Elementary School received an A grade for the 2011-2012 school year. This grade reflects Riley’s most recent academic performance. Indiana’s A through F grading system is designed to provide you a clear and concise assessment of how well your child’s school is doing.
Letter grades are calculated based on data collected throughout each school year. Indiana recently shifted to a more comprehensive way of measuring and reporting school performance, as required by state law. These grades take into account a variety of factors, namely student performance and student growth.
You can view the A through F school accountability report card for Riley Elementary School at the Indiana Department of Education’s COMPASS website at http://compass.doe.in.gov This report details all of the components that factored into Riley’s letter grade this year.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the Riley office at 219-362-3235. Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education.
